Doodle and Friends Stories
We have Ramsey from Rhode Island and Sadie from Highland NY and now our oldest Dood - PJ from Minnesota - what a story we got from his family. Here it is: "We
have owned our dog for 17 years and for most of them we have wondered what
breed he really was. We got him from the Humane Society who told us he
was a Wheaten Terrier but after a friend got a real Wheaten we knew that
our dog was not a one. Finally a few months ago we came across a magazine
(Life I think) that had the picture of a dog that resembled ours. The
article was about a relative new breed the Labradoodle and then we finally
knew what breed our dog is. Today I did an online search about the breed
and found your website. I thought I would send you a picture of our dog
with one of my grandchildren."We had to write back and ask ...17 years old??!!!!! Here's the reply...
"His name is PJ (stands for
Pat and Jim's dog) and yes he is 17 years old We named him PJ because we
got him after our last child moved out and he was the first dog that was
solely ours. Well his disposition is so great that all my children and
grandchildren think of him as theirs just like when they lived with us.
There is even a little battle over who will take him when we leave
town and need him watched. One interesting thing about him is that he
barked very little until recently but within the last 5 years he has
become a great watchdog. We live in Minnesota.
One thing we learn in recent
years is that switching his food to Science Diet for Senior dogs has
really improved his health. It was getting very difficult for him to get
up and down, play and he was generally slowing down. We switched him to
the Science Diet and he improved dramatically. He runs and plays with
much younger dogs much like he did when he was younger.
BTW the picture was taken in May 2005. Yes Doodles are great....James
